If you are looking for a genuine, authentic experience in German cuisine, this is the spot you need to try in Frankfurt! Get the Nurnberger sausages if you go. The restaurant is quaint, with a peculiar decor, but it added to the effect. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, so we were able to enjoy the weather. It is a great family atmosphere, and was off the screaming tourist path. The service was great - our waiter spoke both English and German, and was friendly. He offered us an English menu, and joked around with us, making for a fun experience. The food was stellar. There's something endearing about a simple plate, but what made it special was just how well each item was made. The sausage crunched, the potatoes were the best I've had, and the sauerkraut was... exactly what you'd expect out of sauerkraut! Do not doubt the portion sizes, one of the mains will be enough to fill the standard eater's fill. "Apple wine" is a staple, but not really for me. For the unacquainted, it is essentially German cider, popular in Frankfurt. Theirs was crisp and tasty. Plenty of beer options as well, thankfully!

After a decent amount of research, we decided to come here for our Thanksgiving abroad dinner. It has received very good reviews and if you read a lot of them, it is very true that the food is good, and it is also true that the service is not very fast (though friendly enough). We used our trusty Google translate app to determine the menu items that were unfamiliar to us, and ordering was easy enough. (Luckily, a lot of what we ordered we knew about, but we also pointed to the menu just in case, since it was a bit louder than average.) I'm glad we didn't come on an empty stomach, as it took a good 35 to 40 min before our food arrived. I got the Rindswurst and the bf got the Nuremburg sausages that came with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, of which they did NOT skimp. Half the plate was kraut, half potatoes. We couldn't finish all of it, though we tried! Since it was technically Thanksgiving and because I already had a lot of roasted potatoes, I was glad to see that the potatoes were "puree" (aka mashed), which made it feel a little more appropriate. What has astounded me is how inexpensive beer is. Most beer items are the same price or even cheaper than soda. (Probably b/c the soda is imported, but still!). Instead of being a "cheap date" with a non-alcohol beverage, I was an average date. LOL. In any case, from what we could tell there weren't a lot of tourists. It's on the south side, across the river from the main part of Frankfurt, but it is easy to get to, either by walking or by local transportation.

Loved it. No old folks staring you down; cheerful younger people abound in here. All the regional choices were great. The family atmosphere is nice, too. No screaming tourists. Mind you, I came here with locals. Don't expect much English or kitsch, but real, good old-fashioned food and drink.
